"Going Where the Wind Takes It is a deeply fascinating album. In terms of genre, it's improvised, experimental instrumental jazz music. And behind it are two men - soprano saxophonist / bass clarinetist Pavel Hrubý & drummer / percussionist Klaus Kugel. Their joint album was recorded live during the "Jazz Goes to Town" festival in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic in 2019. And the sound is both airy and light, heavy and sombre. There is something almost sacred about the music - something almost quietly dramatic - that makes the listening experience unshakable. The combination of bass clarinet and percussion in particular provides a fascinating range. And even though everything is improvised, you are never in doubt about the Czech and German's mutual sense of direction, tempo and detail. The interplay between the two is brilliant. The result of their experiment is of rare strength. And even though there are formally twelve movements in the suite, the sum of the movements is an impressive whole. Going Where the Wind Takes It is one of the most gripping, improvised, experimental jazz albums I've heard so far this year." - Ivan Rod, 2023
